The braid

I choose to talk about a book who inspired me. This book have been the bestseller of this summer."The Braid" is a beautiful novel of determination, hope and culture... This book was written by Laetitia Colombani in 2017.

This book talks about three women with nothing in common but nevertheless bound by the rare expression of courage.

Smita lives in India, her job is to clean with her bare hands the village. Her dream is to see her daughter go to school, the place where she can study and have a better future. But this hope is shattened, Smita have to take big decisons.

Guilia lives in Sicily, she is a worker in her father's wig workshop, everthing is fine in her life. But her father is victim of a accident, and she quickly  descovered that her family have been living in a lie.

And Sarah is a lawyer who lives in Canada, she is divorced and she have children, she works very hard. But after a medical appointement she learns that she have a cancer.

This three womens are like three strands in a braid, the author wanted to connect people from different horizons, cultures and religions.

This novel represents global culture because thanks to The Braid, we understand that we all need someone, and sometimes this person is on the other side  of the earth.  Moreover, if you want to pursue your dreams in your life you have to accept the difference between people.
For me, this novel represent the solidarity, transmission and the sharing of cutlure.

  1. When I saw the photo of the article I immediately recognized the novel by Laetitia Colombani. Indeed I heard about this book some time ago, actually this book gives a message of hope and courage. It shows us that it does not matter where we come from, because in this book we have 3 completely different profiles of women, as you explained on one side Smita who lives in India and cleans the village with her bare hands and who has a dream to see her daughter go to school and Sarah on the other side who is a great lawyer in Canada and Guilia who lives in Sicily and works in her father's wig workshop.
One day we will have to face something tragic in our lives, and this book gives us the chance to show us that it is important to never give up whatever happens, and the best is yet to come.
I therefore fully agree with you that this book represents solidarity, transmission and sharing of culture. Thank you for this post because it is a very interesting book that everyone should read!
