New York, a global city

In looking this picture, you guess which the city is I want to talk about.

New York City is a famous town all around the world and considered as a cosmopolitan city because of a large population with various ethnic groups.

In the sixties, a segregation is present in the city and through the country. Nowadays, segregation disappeared but a lot of boroughs exist and are defined with a specific population. For example, Brooklyn is a poor quarter and Upper East Side is a rich quarter nevertheless they are in the same town. In the north of New York there is Harlem, a place previously reserved for black people; in the south of Manhattan there is a district with a Jewish population.

Moreover, Wall Street is a famous district of business and the 5th Avenue is the most well-known avenue in the world.

If I tell you “Big Apple” or the city that never sleeps, you answer me New York.

A lot of cultural elements coexist like art with museum, theater or entertainment show in Broadway and sport with baseball, football or basketball. Besides, exist districts like Little Italy or Chinatown that represent as a little country with language, culture and way of life.

Many characteristics of New York are famous all around the world. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of the city and of the country. Both Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center are some of importants buildings of the city. Then, Grand Central Terminal is more than just a simple station because it takes part of different movies. Finally, Central Park is an emblem for New York City because it is immense with many activities, a zoo, a castle, restaurants and other things.

As a conclusion, to my point of view New York City is a representation of global culture because within the same town there are different cultures and different religions. It is a city and a way of life well-known through the worldwide. People talk about globalization and multiculturalism within New York City.

  1. Hey!
I really like what you wrote, and I agree with you because New York it is a of ethnic communities that make it seem like you are miles away in another country rather than in the bustling city.
I enjoy the mix of cultures in New York City and other boroughs like Bronx, Manhattan Queens Brooklyn and Staten Island. New York City displays multiculturalism through the integration of immigrants, who have helped shape the city into what it is today. Indeed, it is the perseverance of the ancestry of each culture, in the face of great challenges (such as racism and the fear of persecution) that created the crucible for which New York is renowned. Immigration has had a tremendous impact on the city, to the point where you can taste, feel and hear about many cultures around the world.

Moreover, I share your opinion on the fact that city of New York is a representation of world culture because, in the same city, there are different cultures and different religions. It is a city and way of life well known all over the world. People talk about globalization and multiculturalism in New York, and more about fashion, music, food and more. Its cultural diversity means that New York’s neighborhoods have played a key role in many different art forms and genres, such as Yiddish theater in the Lower East Side, hip hop and graffiti in the Bronx, pop art in the East Village, the jazz and literature of the Harlem Renaissance, and the continued massive success of the Broadway theatre district.

    Thank you for your post.
