The Supermotard: from the 70s to today

Born in the United States in the 1970s, the Supermotard crossed the ocean in the 1980s.
The supermotard is a motorcycle competition, which is intended for the pro rider of motorcycle from other prestigious competitions who wish to train when they are not in competition.
Today the supermotard is a competition recognized by all with professionals from this world.

Before being a competition supermotard is a motorcycle derived from motocross, it has a chassis resembling the motocross.
The engine is also similar with some technical variants.
Supermotards are equipped with a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine.
One of the biggest differences between motocross and supermotard is the tire, which is smooth for
the ride.

As for the differences between the supermotard and the classic motorcycle, are the engines not at all made the same way. The supermotard is usually equipped with a single cylinder while conventional motorcycles are equipped with a 3 or 4 cylinder engine. This allows the spermotard to have a bigger acceleration (the torque). On the other hand classic motorcycles have a speed of peaks superior to that of supermotards, the supermotards are not equipped to go as fast as a classic motorcycles.

Today the supermotard is a discipline and an international leisure, there are international competitions (most competitions are in the United States, Europe, Spain, Germany, France). France is one of the best nationalities in the supermotard world.

In a two-stroke engine: oil mixed with gasoline (the fuel) is then mixed with air (the oxidizer).
The piston causes the crankshaft to perform a single turn to complete a complete cycle.
The 2-stroke engine is more fragile and wears faster.
In addition to the simplified operating cycle, it has only very little engine braking.
In a 4-stroke engine: Gasoline and oil are not in contact.
Gasoline (fuel) is mixed with air (the oxidizer).
Oil for lubrication only is stored in the crankcase.
The piston causes the crankshaft to complete 2 complete turns to complete a complete cycle of energy

For my part I am a fan of the supermotard, I do it in leisure and not in competition, in France this leisure this democratize more and more. I fell in love with these motorcycles because there is much more sensations than classic motorcycle and we can go on the road and walk contrary to the motocross. For the moment I'm driving a little supermoto but not in a long time I will ride on a big supermotard.
