The Eurovision
The Eurovision Song
Contest is an annual event organized by the European Broadcasting Union, the
EBU. The Eurovision Song Contest has its origins in the geopolitical context of
the 1950s and the will of the political leaders of the time to create
indissoluble links between European countries It brings together members of the
Union in a musical competition broadcast live and simultaneously by all
participating broadcasters. It is broadcast on television (cable and
satellite), on radio and on the Internet. More commonly known as Eurovision,
according to the television network of the same name, it was invented by the
director general of the Swiss public television, Marcel Bezençon, on the model
of the festival of Sanremo, created recently. It’s very first edition took
place on May 24, 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland. Seven founding countries then
contested the victory. Since then, the contest has been held annually without
interruption. The number of participating countries has increased from seven to
forty-one in the twenty-first century. Over the decades, the contest has
evolved, adapted and reinvented itself, accompanying technological and musical
developments, as well as historical and political developments. It is a perfect
representation of the world culture because it is a real way to bring together
different cultures, different people, different languages and to share a good
time, no matter the difference. This first edition remains special. Only solo
artists can compete, and any choreography is forbidden. In addition, each
country presents two songs due to the small number of participants and sends to
Lugano two jurors. Each juror can award two points to a song, even to a song
from his own country. The complete results were never made public as the
ballots were destroyed immediately after the end of the competition. There is
neither second nor last place.
Each year the winner must organize the next Eurovision
in his country to make discover its culture its population but also to allow
the development of the tourism in the country because the population can attend
the competition without having to buy places because it is with open sky so
that a maximum of people can attend
