Urban fashion : street art all over the world by Salomé Fabre
What is Street Art? It’s an original type of art that we can find only in the streets. It includes different kinds of terms, for example, graffiti artwork, stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheat pasting and street poster art…
Street art is above all a desire to be subversive, to provoke, to represent what everyone thinks in a low voice would be at the origin of this trend, the street being the widest and most powerful platform for the purpose of visibility.
Some street artists perceive the environment as a vast and pristine blank canvas while others are simply motivated by the risks of working illegally in a given location. Today better known to the public, street-art is observed on both sides of the planet. This is the case for Berlin in Germany, Melbourne in Australia and Sao Paulo in Brazil.
All major cities have tasted the medicine of street-art. Paris, London, Bristol, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Chicago, San Francisco and of course, New York are often the scene of gigantic projects, combining activism and protest.
Bringing together a wide variety of artists (designers, photographers, stencils, painters, graffiti artists, etc.), their mission is very precise. They work to bring art and activism together voluntarily, in order to regain control of the cities hitherto assured by politicians, policemen and businessmen who define what the public space is for their own benefit and not thinking about the citizens and artists around them. Some street artists perceive the environment as a vast and pristine blank canvas while others are simply motivated by the risks of working illegally in a given location. Street art is an appropriation as well as an assimilation of the culture because each artist has a different style ,nevertheless, they remain influenced by their culture, their cities ....
In their mentality, we evolve in a world full of lies and applying to realize works of art which denounce this fact, we will finally find the truth. They are against oppression, injustice and contempt, they fight for the underprivileged, the rights of guais, women, elders. Thanks to their art, these artists strike straight to the point to make people think and react.
I chose this subject because the modern art of which the street art belongs fascinates me. When I travel, I love going to visit galleries or neighborhoods filled with graphity. I think it's a very nice way to approach a problem or expose an idea. In my opinion, art is the best way to express a point of view.
