Music, proof of a global culture

Music in the global culture

Today music is present everywhere and it’s one of the best example of global culture. We will look at how globalization and musical diversity around the world have affected the music produced today.
Focusing on consumerism and economic expansion, most societies in today's world are in conflict with cultural values of a less materialistic nature. Despite this, music is appreciated by everybody and there are as many musics as there are nations. We will focus on the importance and influence that a musical genre or artist can have. For this, we will look at a relatively recent musical trend : Techno.

An example : Techno music

Techno is a type of electronic music that emerged in the United States in the mid-1980s. Most often composed in a studio and reinterpreted by disc jockeys during festive practices, techno is primarily a dance music, with repetitive sounds. Techno influenced many musical movements more or less popular such as electro, new wave, soul, funk ... always with an electronic touch.

The Love Parade
Although born in the United States, it emerged and grew up in Europe, more specifically in England and Germany who knew how to welcome it and develop its notoriety. Indeed, today the emblematic capitals of this movement are London and Berlin but each one having their own sound. Berlin is the first city that created the Love Parade in 1989 (a tank parade broadcasting techno music that will gather hundreds of thousands of people in the following  years).

Today, techno brings together youth and partygoers from all around the world. It is recognized by all and appreciated rather by a new globalized generation and not by a single country. It has origins from different cultures and spreads around the world so it is an example of global culture.
