Hard Rock Café: The globalization of food & music
The Hard
Rock Cafe, created in 1971 in London, is a restaurant chain very famous. It is
composed of 140 restaurants all around the world. Those kinds of restaurant are
called “theme restaurant”. The Hard Rock Cafe’s one is “Rock & Roll”. A
place where you can eat burgers while you’re listening to rock music and admire
the decoration with guitars, famous artists clothes etc…
Indeed,
this restaurant chain represents global culture because it is located everywhere
in the world. In any Hard Rock Cafe restaurant, in Thailand, Germany, Japan,
Nigeria, US and more, it’s going to be the same restaurant, with the same menu,
music and decoration. That shows that even we are in countries with cultures
totally different you find foods and music that all the world will like.
Burgers and rock music have been extended all around the world and that shows
why Hard Rock Cafe is so successful.
This is the
case of cultural assimilation because the atmosphere and the architecture are
the same in any restaurant all around the world.
I choose
Hard Rock Cafe because I’m a big fan of music and I travelled a lot. Wherever I
have been, I found this restaurant. It happened in Thailand, in Morocco and
many more. I find that the food and the atmosphere is so great even if it’s
expensive.
The Hard
Rock Cafe chain shows that there is a globalization because since London, the
first restaurant, it has expanded everywhere in the world. However, it does not
show the multiculturality because anywhere of the world, this is the same kind
of restaurant, same kind of food, music and atmosphere.
My example
can add to the class that food and music are also elements that can be expand
everywhere in the world. This shows how globalization can go.
I agree with you, hard rock café is a part of globalization, I've already been to a hard rock café and it's amazing. I'm a big fan of music and I think it's a great idea to mix food with rock because it gives life to the restaurant. Seing the style of the 80's makes you go back to the past. Even in movies like "pulpe fiction", a great movie made by Tarantino, you can see hard rock café, so it shows that hard rock café makes us live in a global culture by presenting the United States to the all world.
