SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
I decided to talk
about a well known movie: slumdog millionaire.
I chose this film
for culture.
This movie was
released on January 14, 2009 by Danny Boyle. This is the story of a young boy
who, since his childhood, has lived in the slums of Mumbai. Jamal Malik wants
to pursue his dream: to find Latika, a young orphan whom he is in love with. As
he begins to lose hope, he imagines a surprising solution to regain his love:
to participate in the biggest TV show in the country, Who wants to earn
millions? . He reaches the final question at 20 million rupees but he is
arrested by the police, who suspects him of cheating.
Dany Boyle shows us
that life experiences make it possible to accumulate other forms of
"knowledge" that may allow in the present case to win in a game show.
He reminds us that the "poor man's culture" is not just a culture of
deprivation, but another culture. Moreover, because of his social category, he
is suspected of cheating because for the richest he should not be so cultured
and should not have won. We can therefore say that there are social
inequalities not only in India but everywhere in the world.
