Facebook has a strong hold across the globe!

Facebook is an American social networks and it was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckenberg: a computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur who was 23 years old at this time. First, Facebook was established for all Harvard’s student to communicate between them. Later, it was established for all the student from different university and then everyone.

How definite global cultural globalization? It’s a transmission of ideas, meanings and values around the world and it can be diffused by many means such as Internet: the subject of my post and particularly Facebook.

This social network allows to create discussion and interaction between users: this explains their success. Facebook is a good means to keep your friends around the world and share pictures, videos or links. It’s also a place of freedom where everyone can express themselves. Facebook has no borders between countries, so the connection between them has no limit. It allows great opportunities for exchange across the world. That’s why today Facebook is the first social network used in the world with more than 500 million users and the site gets within two hours 22 000 visitors.

Today, the emergence of Facebook has been important elements of evolution in the socialization.  And if I decide to talk about this subject it’s because this is a real example of the globalization in the world. It’s also an economic, cultural and political globalization.

I’m using Facebook and also others social networks, and this media interest me by all the opportunities it can bring.
Facebook has become a reference in our life. And many people are registered! News is broadcast by media, political man, journalist… For example, Donald Trump used social network to communicate with people from all around the world with Twitter.

Facebook is so become the most important place to communicate, share and send with the world!  It might be interesting to discuss it in class to exchange different opinions about Facebook.

According to you, is Facebook part of globalization?

Comments

  1. Firstly ,I agree with you ,Facebook is a part of Globalization.
I'm using Facebook and nowadays a lot of people had the historical social networks . Facebook is part of every day life.People can free express what they wanted . Facebook have a lot of opportunities. We can share pictures or talk with friends around the world with people who has a different culture.

However , I think so Facebook isn't the Reality indeed facebook can give a fake image of Globalization. The social network does not confront us to the hard reality of every countries (Homeless , sadness , diseases,etc..) and this is sometimes miss leading Moreover, a more terrifying consequence is the various risks involved in using these pages on the internet. The information posted on the Facebook can not be very private and many third parties have access to it and it’is very dangerous for every one who use it. Facebook is also a monitoring tool, everyone can see what the other is doing and that’is the big the problem of Social networks Globalization

To conclude Facebook is a tool to take part of globalization but not only indeed facebook is a tool that does not reflect the reality.

  2. Hi Elina!
First, thank you for your post, it was very interesting. Indeed, I feel concerned as I also use Facebook every day for many different reasons.
I agree with you, today, Facebook plays an important role in globalization. As you said, it is a way to communicate between us, in an immediate way, no matter where we are. Facebook allows a lot of exchanges from persons of different culture and different places. That is why we can say that Facebook brings cultures together. Indeed, the same social media gathers 2 billion people, everywhere in the world, from different cultures, places and origins.
According to what I just mentioned, Facebook contributes to make us live in a global culture. So, I think it adds to our class discussion. Indeed, Facebook is a way to diffuse cultures. However, we should speak about culture appropriation Facebook, or other social media allow. For example, some representative signs of cultures are used, for fashion, for buzz… without understanding and explaining their origins. This is not respectful for the culture.
Finally, I enjoyed your post, as it is a subject we all know as we all spend a lot of time on Facebook every day. Thus, Facebook makes us actors of globalization!

  3. I find that you article is very interesting because it is true that facebook is closer and especially is totally in the discovery of the other, the meeting, multiculrality. I even think that it was so the purpose of the founder was to connect unknown people so that they become today linked.t is obvious today we live in an era of globalization and multiculralism and it is wonderful to discover and learn about other people and other cultures from just a social network and I find that it is really an idea.

to conclude today we must get used to all this is not a bad change but necessary learn to live with other cultures of other ideals, other thought that his initiated for generations just pushes the borders of discovery and others. Congratulations for this beautiful article very interesting!!!
