The influence of YouTube

The influence of YouTube

YouTube is a website dedicated to video sharing. It features a variety of movies, TV shows and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogs and YouTube Gaming. It was created by three former employees of PayPal in February 2005 and, in October 2006, acquired by Google Inc. in exchange for $ 1.6 billion: it now operates as one of its subsidiaries. This is the website of this type most used on the internet. In 2016 there were more than 1 billion users, the site is present in 75 countries for 61 languages. More than 46,000 years of watched videos per day and more than 6 billion hours of video per month.
This platform allows users around the world to connect and share information universally. But like any internet tool, YouTube has both positive and negative aspects;
The love army

On November 27, 2017, Jérôme Jarre, famous videographer, went to the largest refugee camp in the world, at Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. Accompanied by famous artists and youtubers, the goal of this trip is to raise public awareness of the fate of the Rohingyas through their community Youtube. This minority Muslim population from Burma, who is fleeing ethnic cleansing. Thanks to social networks, including Youtube, the Love Army calls the great companies. In the face of their silence, the Love Army decides to open an online pot. On November 29, the organizers announced that they had already raised $ 800,000, November 30, $ 1,400,000 are collected, and December 31, 2017, 2 million euros are harvested. It's thanks to the great solidarity created by youtube that it was possible.
 Logan Paul

But youtube also has a dark side, indeed some youtubers are not aware of the impact they have on their audience. On the night of New Year's Eve, Logan Paul, a famous videographer, published a video showing the corpse of a young student who committed suicide in the Aokighara forest. This was considered shocking by the internet users. This has called into question the ability of Youtube to manage its videographers

  1. I agree with you that youtube has a real influence especially among young people. Today the influence attributed to youtuber is stronger than that of advertising egeries. Some youtuber have a real talent that allows them to increase their influence beyond their own community. More and more young spend time on this platform, so they are in "proximity" with their favorite youtuber. The relationship to the youtubeur is often intimate and exclusive, unlike a tv program. The youtubeur is revealed much more than the celebrities. Subscribers are generally familiar with their environment because the videos are shot at home. The videos are most often made in "filmed true" without artifices and the "dialogue" is usually done in close-up camera. However, one can also think that this power of influence can be eroded if a youtubeur excessively multiplies the operations and can be also when it becomes "youtubeur star" and becomes less accessible. In the latter case, the power of influence can be used in favor of audience influence. But I agree with you that youtuber must pay more attention to their content posted on their youtube channel, especially as in most cases, they are children watching the videos.

  2. It's a really great idée to talk about youtube when we talk about global culture . today youtube is one of the rare totally free media in the world , even if some people will say that youtube is not a real media however its notoriety is much bigger than the most popular médias in the world , and by "free media " i dont just speak about
    the freedom of speech but rather of freedom in a general way, indeed on youtube every person in the world has the same right to publish absolutely all what he or she wants , of course within the limit of the justice and the general conditions of
    youtube and this total freedom has increased the creativity of people allowing them to be known and make known their cultures we can listen to the music and watch the clips of the Netherlands in Australia, or even better some youtubers even make videos to make known the traditions and different cultures of their country and there are still many examples of how youtube has become today one of the greatest means of cultural exchange in the world .
