Invictus
I chose to talk in my article about the movie Invictus. It was produced by Clin Eastwood. The movie is about the rugby world cup in South Africa in 1995. The main subject of the movie is the racial segregation that happened during this time in South Africa. We can see that on the first were there is a road that seperate a beautiful training ground used by white people and a muddy training ground for the black people on the other side of the road. In this scene, we can also see Nelson Mandela, played by Margan Freeman, walking trought that road and he is being applaud by the black people and gets loocked at in an agressive way by the white people. This scene clearly show the seperation between the two civilisations.
The goal of this movie is to show how the racial segregation was during this time and how Mandela succed to reunite those two civilisations as one. To do this, Mandela managed, with the help of Francois Pienaard, played by Matt Damon, to make the black people appreciate the Springbock, the South African team of rugby, mostly played by white people.
At the beggining, it was very complicated to convince everyone because there was a real and big tension between the two civilisations. But step by step, we can see the revonciliation between them.
This movie show how the president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was an emblematic figur for the world and especialy for his country. The movie also show how wise Mandela was after what he been trought over the years in prison just because of what he believed in.
This movie was a big success for Clint Eastwood because it was well played by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon who managed to give a real meaning to this story. I believe that the movie is a good example of Global Culture because it show how two civilisations who used to hate each other became one civilisations thanks to one man and one sport
I also loved this movie so I know what he's talking about. I think your idea is very good because this film fits perfectly to the theme. This film is on a very beautiful side but also very sad because it does not only show the beautiful side with this epic of Springboks in rugby world cup that has a little reunited the country with the help of Nelson Mandela. This film also shows the segregation that existed in South Africa and the difficulty that had two ethnicities and two different cultures to live together
ReplyDeleteI think the story of racial segregation in South Africa is really well shown through Clint-Eastwood’s film. Apartheid is clearly one of the big event that impact South African culture and its people. This racial discrimination touched all the contries of the world and the idea of a common civilization with no racial distinction spread all around the world. Acceptation of differences is now an idea which is a part of globalization. The segregation from South Africa and also from the United States has a big impact on every part of this artistic world. In fact, we find references of segregation in movies such as Invictus, and also in art or memorial. Mandela managed to change people mentality about differents ethnies.
