Olympic Games

Originally the Olympic Games were held at Olympia in Greece in honor of Zeus, the first edition took place in 776 BC and lasted for over 1000 years.

It was in 1892 that Pierre de Coubertin revived the
Olympic Games, a sports festival that takes place every two years and alternates Olympic Games summer and winter. The first "modern" Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896, bringing together 241 athletes and 12 countries.

One of the key symbols of this competition is the Olympic Flag is composed of five intertwined rings that represent the five continents, and the universality of Olympism.

Since the revival of the Olympic Games, the competition has evolved enormously, by the birth of new disciplines but also by the appearance of new countries in the competition. From 12 countries the Olympic Games to 204 nations, it is now one of the most publicized events.

The Olympic Games are the most important sporting competition in the world, and have the value of combining sport and culture.
This global event allows a rally of different countries represented by their athletes.

Indeed it gathers thousands of sportsmen to make it compete on different competitions and which will share during this event a framework of common life. But there are also audiences from different countries and millions of viewers around the world.

The Olympic Games bring together people's ideologies and transmit many values through sport.
They bring the countries together to the values of peace, and to learn a little more about the organizing countries (traditions, way of life).

"Gradually internationalism has crept under the sport, fueling interest, expanding the sphere of action." Pierre de Coubertin

  1. Hello Anna !
The Olympic Games are a very good subject to address today, it is important at the sporting level but also at the cultural level. We can talk about a mixture of cultures and especially of discovery during the Olympic Games. Visitors are there to see the events of the athletes but also take the opportunity to visit the monuments around the venue of the competition. But also before and at the end of the winners' ceremonies visitors can attend artistic and musical presentations. Many local artists make sculptures on site. These works, however, must be constrained, that of allied sport and culture therefore to make works of art with a side that is reminiscent of sport. In addition there is an Olympic Charter in connection with culture which must be held which is "a program of cultural events which must cover at least the whole opening period of the Olympic Village". So we can say that the Olympic Games are not without a cultural touch, knowing that the Olympic Games are held around the world, the culture of each country can be spread from everywhere and gives pleasure to the visitors of the Olympic Games and without forgetting of course the participants. We can therefore put the Olympic Games in a global culture.
    This topic was very interesting!

  2. I think the Olympics are interesting because we can see competitions between 206 different countries. There are all kinds of countries whether developed countries or countries with developmental voices. These events bring together the most prestigious athletes on the planet to honor their homeland and win a maximum of Olympic medals
Throughout these trials we can see people coming together behind the athletes of their country, we can see some patriotism in the stands with caps in the colors of the country, flags and scarves.
Unlike football, the moods at the Olympic Games are quite calm, there is no "hooligan" in the stands that rings
The Paralympic games have also been opened with persons who have a physical challenge. I think this concept is very good because many people with physical problems could not be heard and was unable to play sports
I think that the Olympic Games are a very beautiful invention because it has brought together people from all over the world but also to be able to support are equipped throughout the world. but also, to give everyone a chance with Paralympic Games
the best athletes are rewarded with medals that are gold silver and bronze in all disciplines.
