The way Opera spreads like powder through nations and times.
Opéra is a combination of different arts: music, theatre, staging. It is usually played on very old historic places, who are designed as classic and lordly. There is a lot of various movement, and genders that have their own rules (for example the Classic gender, where dying on stage is absolutely forbidden).
The history of opera begins in Italy in Florence on the XVII century, by a group of humanists self-appointed “Camerata” (which means “living room” in a Florentin speaking). The aim was to revive ancient Greek theatre and to oppose renaissance period. This music firstly traveled In Italy, took different characteristics in every town, and had an increasingly success from the moment it opened to the whole public (no more to nobles only).
Opera took place in every Europeans countries. The gender has been so esteemed and appreciated that some Germans compositors who were in stay in the land, bring it home. Then, in Russia, the opera has been brought by Italians soldiers and has been well received by Russian aristocrats. There, opera has been used as a way of propaganda to improve nationalism. In reality, the opera as an international aspect, it even took place in Africa with “Aïda”, created by Verdi for example, and in Asia where it is a mix of tradition and modernity…
It differ from one place to another, following traditions and land’s cultures, that is why there is so much variety. This had ingrowth concurrency and encouraged compositors to always do their best to build stunning pieces of art.
This complex art has been scattered by immigration, politics, concurrency, and hierarchy (by its noble aspects). It was an easy way, for people to express themselves, to entertain, and to dream.
Carmen is my favorite opera, it is the more played in the world and it has been composed by the famous French compositor George Bizet. Carmen perfectly represents the global culture, because it is a big melting pot of different ideas and concepts. It is innovating and didn’t had enough success when it has been made. It has been created on the 3rdmars 1875.
The story take place in Seville, in Spain. The story itself is a kind of love story with an hesitation between passion and reason, it have a very dramatic fondness.
One the most famous song in carmen is also an aspect of global culture, the song is “l’amour est enfant de bohème” (love is Boehm’s child) and it is the only part of the opera who has been copied from El Arriglito (a Spanish song). When Bizet wrote the lyrics, he called it “La Habanera” which means the havanaise woman, whereas Carmen, the main character, is a gypsy (and there is not any gypsy in Cuba). This opera is a mix of little anecdotes from around the world and has an exotic part.
Finally, the opera mix so much instruments who have been constructed by people and materials from all over the world, is sung by Germans, Italians, English, French (ect…) people in the same representation. It took the best of every land to concentrate it on a music who is longing for more than 3 hours.
