The olympics are international events that brings together different sports confronting athletes from all over the world; This sporting event takes place every 4 years and includes summer sports and winter sports, and this since 1896 in the first edition taking place in Athens.
Why the Olympics represent the global culture ?
The Olympic Games are a symbol of unity across different sports in the world; this large-scale opportunity allows athletes to represent their countries and come together in a single event; There is no limit of language, country or even continent, all countries can participate.
One of the strengths of the Olympic Games to represent the global culture is the opportunity for all to participate in these games. Women and men can participate; It was also created in 1960 the Paralympic games to allow the person suffering from a disability to participate in these games.
Whether in summer or winter sports, in the women, men or disabled category, everyone can represent a country that is united with others in this great world competition.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said ! The fact that there is an Olympic Games since so much time prove that it is not only a global thing, it shows how it went through the years and times.Sport is the results of different traditions and is the reflect of countries's stories. It is a concentrate of every culture, every person, every age. It continues until today and it generates a lot of interest from the whole world, relayed on tv, radio, newspapers... We can also have the special felling while watching olympic games, when the team of your country wins. This feeling of unity just makes everyone support the same aim, and bring people together.
ReplyDeleteThe mutual aid between players makes us remind that we are humains before being France, Asian, etc... We have seen a lot of emotional moments, between competitors and supporters (during sport, when one is injured, the other(s) is/are taking care of the other). And this with different cultures : it doesn't matter.
I loved this article. I totally agree with what you said.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the Olympic Games show the effect of "global culture". They exist for several centuries, they are known by the whole world. Every 4 years, this event is relayed all over the world by all means of communication. This event brings together all countries, all religions, all sexes, and even more because for several years people with disabilities can join this event by setting up the "Paralympic Games".
Everyone is accepted. The athletes share the same emotions, the same competitions depending on each event, different countries compete against each other then there is a homogenization of the people on the side of the fans as well as the side of the athletes.
Everyone supports themselves for the same cause with the same goal of winning there is then a unit that is created and supporters, sportsmen, organizers, coaches get together for the same cause.
I think you explained very well why the Olympic Games were a perfect representation of the global culture. I do not disagree with you.
It can be a very good topic of discussion in class, because everyone knows this event, each person can bring his different point of view.
